Coraline by stolenwings Coraline by stolenwings
If they had asked me to do a cover to Neil Gaiman's new book, Coraline, I would have given them this. Alas, they asked Dave McKean. I don't REALLY mind though as mr. McKean is one of my favorite artists ever, I just thought it would be fun to try to illustrate Neil Gaiman's fabulous book. Hehe. If you haven't read Coraline yet, well why haven't you? You ain't got no excuse :D

It looks kinda like she has a beard, but it's still fairly fantastic.

Have you ever read Abarat?

I read it and enjoyed it! It was really interesting, and I enjoyed it! -^_^-
(at the exact moment when the other mother's hand was crawling through the forest near the well, a spider crawled across my pillow in front of my face--i screamed and was almost too freaked out to finish the book)

I LOVED that book and I LOVE your version of it.
You even drew in The Cat! The Cat was my favourite character....

I think that they -should- have gotten you to do the colour, or atleast they should have had two different versions(Of which I would have bought both).lol.

I love the darkness and the depth to this picture. The yellow of their eyes really stands out well on that beautiful sea-green. The dark colours really suit the atmosphere of the book.
Excellant work!

The cat looks expectant and annoyed. It works.

Isn't the book brilliant? It's genius, and so is this. :+fav:

I have no idea who or what Coraline is - but it would certainly be very proud of this little pic here. I love the darkness and moody atmosphere you've given it, the subtle shading against really heavy black really sets the whole thing off. And I love the Kitty too, it's soooooooooooooooo cute and faboo, with big shiny eyes. I want a cat like that :D :D :D I'm still in total admiration of what your mind can come up with artistic-wise. Faboo Faboo Faboo

Beautiful!! I find this a lot different from a lot of your other stuff. Much darker...literally and figuratively.

I really love how the eyes of the cat and the girl are really similar. This reminds me a lot of that...Egyptian pharoh who wore a beard.

I really love the cat for some reason. It's so neat!

Oooh....looks like she and the cat are right on the edge of the gray cloudy 'nothingness'. I loved that book! Especially the cat. I have to wonder about the end though. I don't want to give anything away here to those who haven't read it. But it seemed a little too easy to me. Like maybe 'it' could get out again....just maybe. ;) Your illustration for it is wonderful! Great work! =)
